Two Florida Cities Cancel Pride Amid DeSantis Crackdown

Corporate America is abandoning queer causes rather than risk conservative backlash. Is anyone surprised?

The Tampa Pride Board announced Friday that all 2026 Pride events are canceled, including the beloved Pride Festival and Diversity Parade. Following that, Fort Meyers also announced they were canceling Pride events.

The cancellation comes down to money. Corporate sponsors are fleeing Pride events across Florida faster than you can say "rainbow capitalism," leaving organizers scrambling to fund celebrations that have become lifelines for queer communities.

“A lot of sponsors told me, DEI, is the reason they can’t do it,” former Tampa Pride President Carrie West told local media.

Translation: companies that once slapped rainbows on their logos every June are now too terrified of Governor Ron DeSantis's anti-LGBTQ+ crusade to write checks supporting the community.

This isn't just about Florida. The chilling effect is spreading nationwide. Nashville Pride is now hosting an emergency benefit concert just to survive, while Missouri's Pride organizers press forward despite receiving a chilling threat this week.

The message from corporate boardrooms is crystal clear: when push comes to shove, profit margins matter more than Pride.

But here's what these fair-weather allies are forgetting: the LGBTQ+ community has survived far worse than corporate abandonment.

The silver lining? Now we know who our real allies are — and it's not the corporations that bail when things get tough. It's the small businesses, local organizations, and individual donors who understand that Pride isn't just a party; it's a declaration that we exist, we matter, and we're not going anywhere.

"Queer Travel" vs "Gay Travel" — Which is Better?

Here’s an interesting piece exploring the difference between “gay travel” — often centered on cis gay men, nightlife, and parties — and “queer travel,” which the author describes as broader, more inclusive, and community-driven.

When I think of gay travel, I think of Speedos and six-packs; I hear the oonts-oonts of the nightclub…. But queer travel? That feels like another thing entirely.

Emma Glassman-Hughes

The author’s recent trip to Ireland mixed both: Pride parades and drag clubs alongside queer walking tours, a beautiful stained-glass LGBTQ memorial, trans punk shows, and visits to queer-owned businesses.

It’s a thoughtful piece about what travel can look like when it’s for all of us, not just one slice of the LGBTQ+ community. Read it here. And give us your thoughts…

⚖️ Q&A Time:

Last Week’s Results: Last week, we asked: Do you ever cruise for sex on vacation?

  • 89% said yes, of course

  • 11% said no

The verdict: Let’s just say the girls are not shy on holiday. Travel isn’t just about sightseeing, it’s about seeing who’s available—queer wanderlust clearly comes with a side of wander-lust.

  • “Life is short…😉

  • “The hunt, the Chase and of course, the kill. So very exciting you see it go after it and then the end you have it.”

  • “It was the best way for me to indoctrinate myself into the gay scene as someone who came out very late in life.”

  • “It's a big part of why I travel and have destinations where accessibility to cruising and meeting men is readily available.”

  • “We are monogamous and cruising isn’t what we would be interested in.”
