Hello hello — Happy Sunday! Here's what's on tap this week:

What Happened When Zohran Mamdani Showed Up to a Gay Bar at 1 AM

NYC’s Next Mayor

With just three days until Election Day, New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani spent Saturday night doing something most politicians could never: hitting six different Brooklyn clubs past midnight to energize voters where they actually are.

The Democratic Socialist assemblyman's late-night tour included multiple queer venues and events that should be on every LGBTQ+ traveler's Brooklyn itinerary.

He stopped at Mood Ring, a beloved queer bar in Bushwick known for its tropical vibes and inclusive dance floor.

Next was Papi Juice, the legendary queer and trans people of color art collective that's been transforming NYC nightlife since 2013 with their curated DJ sets and intentional platforms for BIPOC queer artists.

He also stopped at Elsewhere in Bushwick, and the night ended at 100 Sutton in Williamsburg.

"We've got three days to make history in this city," he told the crowd at 100 Sutton around 1 AM.

The bar crawl proves what many LGBTQ+ activists have argued: voters want leaders who stand WITH trans people, not throw them under the bus.

While national Democrats debated whether supporting trans rights was "electable," Mamdani campaigned on a $65 million investment in gender-affirming care—and maintained a double-digit lead over disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo.

In fact, he plants to make NYC a sanctuary city for trans people if elected. He announced that in this moving tribute to trans rights icon Sylvia Rivera.

As polls open Tuesday, Mamdani's midnight Brooklyn tour shows he knows exactly where his people are: dancing at queer venues that celebrate trans folks of color, not at million-dollar fundraisers.

  • “More fun with others but there are times when I I feel like traveling solo ”
