Africa is Set to Hold Its First-Ever WorldPride 👀

Cape Town Pride is about to get bigger
Cape Town isn’t just one of the most stunning cities in the world — it’s about to become the queer capital of the world.
After being announced late last year, itt was just confirmed that Cape Town will host WorldPride in 2028 — a first for the African continent, and a massive milestone for visibility, celebration, and resistance.
And we thought D.C. hosting WorldPride was making a statement.
But you don’t have to wait until 2028 to experience and appreciate all this city has to offer. Whether you’re into mountains, beaches, queer nightlife, or deep political history, this city delivers. And then some.
Cape Town’s got layers: rainbow flags in De Waterkant, drag queens lip-syncing at Zer021, surfers at Muizenberg, and wine snobs sipping rosé in Stellenbosch. You can hike a world wonder in the morning (Table Mountain), flirt on Clifton 3rd Beach by midday, and dance under the stars in Green Point by night.
South Africa has some of the strongest LGBTQ+ protections in the world — including marriage equality and constitutional safeguards since 2006. Same-sex couples can adopt, trans people are allowed to change gender, and LGBTQ+ men and women can serve in the military.
But racial and economic inequality still shape the experience here — like many cities shaped by colonialism and apartheid. This is a place where queer joy exists side by side with struggle. Travel respectfully, learn something, and tip well.
This Week’s Poll:
Now that Cape Town’s hosting WorldPride 2028 — the first ever on the African continent — we want to know: Would you go?
Would you consider going to WorldPride in Cape Town? |
It’s an unforgettable milestone, but it’s also a long trip, and let’s be real — not everyone feels safe or able to travel that far.

⚖️ Q&A Time:
Last Week’s Results:
We asked: Are we getting too political up in here???
12% said “Yes, tone it down”
88% said “No, I love it”
Verdict:
Apparently, many of you came for the travel deals and stayed for the political backbone. Good — because we’re not here to stay quiet.
Oh— and y’all had some THOUGHTS:
“We all need to know what's going on in our community. The media won't cover these types of stories out of fear of retribution”
“You definitely are NOT too political. Now more than ever, media outlets have a responsibility to report on the political climate with clarity and urgency—especially when it comes to how policies impact the LGBTQ+ community. Visibility matters. Silence enables harm. It’s essential that all press continue to highlight the real consequences of political decisions on queer lives. ”
“Tell them giiirrrrlllllllllllllllll we can't be a movement without the knowledge”
“We can not ignore what is going on. If we don't keep informed, we could lose everything. We are not protestors, we are protectors!”
“Being LGBTQ IS political. The conservatives make everything about our existence political, from spying on what we do in our bedrooms to banning books and Drag Queen Story Hours. They are infatuated with us, and they will never stop trying to shut us down and legislate away our rights. Therefore, we must remain political, which means staying informed and staying responsive. Activism = life!”
