RuPaul is bringing high speed rail to the U.S. — kind of

All aboard, heney

The mother of all drag queens is finally doing what progressive lawmakers in our country have failed to do for decades: she’s finally bringing high speed rail to the United States!

Well, kind of. It was announced this week that Mama Ru will star in a feature-length film set in the Drag Race universe—a gay travel movie that takes place on a high-speed train.

And she’s playing the President of the United States.

According to Variety, the film will tell the tale of two best friends and train stewardesses who “trade their dreary shifts on the Stank Rail for the glitzy Glamazonian Express.”

When a catastrophic ‘Stormganza’ threatens to derail the high-speed train and crash it into Los Angeles, the duo in coach must join forces with the snobby first class attendants and President Gagwell (RuPaul) to save the day.

“Drag queens in charge of America’s first-ever hyperspeed, transcontinental, non-denominational bullet train. What could possibly go wrong?” said World of Wonder co-founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato.

“What the world needs now is a disaster movie so twisted it will blow your mind. “

Ru will play President Gagwell, telling Variety it’s the part she was “born to play.” The rest of the cast hasn’t yet been announced, but it’s expected to hit theaters in 2026.

But seriously though… The United States is lagging well behind the rest of the developed world when it comes to high speed rail.

Europe has about 120 times the mileage of high speed rail that the U.S. has, while China has at least 500 times more.

A train trip between Houston and Dallas (about 240 miles) takes over nine hours.

In Spain, a similar trip between Madrid and Valencia takes less than two hours.

In China, the trains are even faster: the same distance—between Beijing and Jinan—takes only an hour and 22 minutes.

Progressives have been pushing for more rail options in the United States, with routes planned between Houston and Dallas and Los Angeles to San Fransisco. But those projects have been stymied by NIMBYs, Republicans, and a fascist president who only wants the government to pay for projects that line the pockets of his billionaire friends.

Maybe Ru’s introduction of the Glamazonian Express will show America what we are truly missing: fabulous, efficient, high-speed rail.
